Garden Therapy. For Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Easter, IGC members meet at the care center and make holiday flower arrangements for the resident dining tables. Resident participation is encouraged.

Issaquah Historical Museum

Gilman Town Hall native plant garden is maintained by IGC members with several work parties held during the year. The garden is intended to represent what native Americans would have used for herbal remedies and cooking in the Pacific Northwest region. IGC provides the educational plant information at the museum.

IGC members volunteer to weed and clean out the Native Discovery Garden several times a year and plant native plants when needed. IGC also gives a donation each year.

Issaquah Food Bank

Members are encouraged to bring food donations to each Garden Club meeting. The donations are delivered to the food bank and total donations are tallied and reported in the monthly newsletter.

Issaquah Valley Elementary Youth Gardening

IGC sponsors Growing Great Gardeners for all first graders at Issaquah Valley Elementary School. The program teaches organic sustainable food gardening in eight raised beds on the school grounds. Classes are held monthly from January to June with IGC members helping to prepare, teach and maintain the gardens with the help of parent volunteers. All extra produce is donated to the local food bank. In June a ‘Salad Bowl Celebration’ is held for the students, staff and parents. This program promotes love of gardening, making healthy food choices and taking care of our earth. Youth are our future.

Blue Star Memorial By-Way Marker

The Issaquah Garden Club ‘Blue Star Memorial By-Way’ maker is located at Issaquah Veterans Memorial Park next to the Issaquah Valley Senior Center and was dedicated with a ceremony on Veteran’s Day, November 12, 2007. The IGC Blue Star Marker is decorated with flowers and a small flag by garden club members four times a year; Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day and Veteran’s Day.

NGC-Penny Pines Program

At every Issaquah Garden Club meeting, a basket is passed to collect money for the NGC-Penny Pines Program. Each $68 collected is contributed to a Penny Pine Plantation as part of the cost of replanting replacement trees indigenous to a particular damaged area. IGC has directed their collected funds to the Wenatchee National Forest in Washington State which has had several devastating fires in recent years.

Issaquah Post Office Beautification 2020-2021                                                                                                                                                                               

In the fall of 2020, in conjunction with Issaquah Rotary Club, we participated in an Issaquah Post Office Beautification project. We purchased and planted a water trough near the front door of the Post Office (see photo in Gallery) and in the spring of 2021 we will add some shrubs and grasses.
